Black French toast croissant; french toast dipped in black sesame egg batter, served with caramelized nuts, strawberry 🍓, vanilla ice cream, and salted egg yolk sauce🍳 & Farmer's Pancake; pancakes with hash brown, ham, mushroom and sunny side up egg for our early lunch! And Passionfruit Chocolate Earl Grey mousse for our sweet tooth. Didn't quite like the jelly like orange flavour in the cake itself. The chocolate mousse was fine!  continue reading

The fact that I was around Petaling Jaya area warrants a visit to a friendly neigborhood cafe called Jam And Kaya cafe which serves signature savory and sweet pancakes, other breakfast dishes, small bites, desserts, pastas, juices and coffee.I went during tea time hour and decided to have their sweet bites such as the brownie ala mode, creme brulee, scones and a cup of joe to wash it all down. The brownies were really fudgy and thick. It pairs really well with the vanilla ice cream and the iced coffee. Aside from that, their scones come in a pair. The texture was crumbly and it is accompanied alongside with their freshly made clotted cream and jam.The texture of the creme brulee was abit off as it was not creamy at all. It was underdone and the layer below the crust was liquidy. The lady boss was kind enough to offer me another creme brulee, when I returned the undercooked one. Aside from that minor flaw in the creme brulee, the whole experience there was pleasant.  continue reading

Jam and Kaya resides in the the PJ Palms Sport Centre, though it's kinda hidden but the power of social medias were undeniable, drawing lots of people to this place. Pancakes are their signatures, fluffy and the condiments were simple generous enough to make you agree with it. I would really like to give compliments on their choice of strawberries. Unlike certain cafes putting in strawberries for the sake of it, but Jam & Kaya indeed uses fresh, huge and red strawberries, reflecting how serious they prepare the dish, from the ingredients the pick. Regardless of Savoury or sweet, they have nailed it, their soft yet moist pancakes goes well simply with any condiments.  The cafe is also known for their signature hot chocolate with chocolate balls. The silky smooth and rich chocolate drink warms up the heart, bright up the day with its sweet and lovely chocolate aroma, with the chocolate balls giving a slight crunch to the drink, completing the overall sensation. The whitish interior designs of the cafe simply made the environment bright and cheerful. With the minimal decorations of daisies and glass bottles, it enhances the happiness of eating 😁 Everything in the cafe looks ikea-ish, simple and clean. Jam and Kaya is a day cafe whereby it closes at night. But it has not influence much the traffic of the customers, yet they will always find a time to pay a visit. Kudos! continue reading

Jam & Kaya brings the Klang Valley's best year yet for independent cafes to a triumphant close; visiting this winsome venue is a potent reminder to value the people who pour their hearts into creating these places. Dismissing these cafes without knowing their stories is blatant disrespect.Brunches are a treat here; the Eggs Royale (RM21) feature irresistibly delicious poached eggs, resting atop thick slices of smoked salmon & crisp leaves in a croissant.Available through 5pm, so late risers like us can mercifully still have breakfast for lunch. The menu remains a work in progress, but it's excellent to see these baked eggs that borrow inspiration from the Tunisian-origin recipe of 'shakshouka' ...... creamy with a thick, tomato-rich base that conceals soft chunks of eggplant. RM18.90. Dinner specials include chicken ballotine, beef stew with potatoes & salmon with couscous.Pancakes are a pleasure here: try the one with salted caramel & macadamia nuts (RM16.50). Other varieties come with caramelized bananas & yes, even jam & kaya.Save space for dessert; these babies are a star attraction in their own right.Praline cheesecake, very rich, sumptuously smooth. Gotta try the tarts next time.Coffee's constructed with Colombian beans; not a bad latte, definitely.Love the hot chocolate here, mixed with tiny, crispy chocolate balls for extra enjoyment. continue reading
