It was ages since we last had their renowned dish, the famous Beggar Chicken. New Heong Kee is situated in Ulu Klang, nearby Ampang and Zoo Negara. For the benefit of those who haven’t been there, you could waze there but do slow down once you see the Petronas Gas Station. It is located right after the gas station with minimal signage, hence you may drove past if you haven’t been there previously.Since there were about 10 of us, we order the sets. It is highly advisable to book at least a week before to avoid disappointment. The place is rather small, hence they may not be able to cater to too many patrons. The set costs us about RM 400 which comes with the Beggar Chicken, Stuffed Fish, Deep Fried Bean Curd, Pork Knuckle, Fried Glass Noodles, Soy Sauce Prawns and of course, the Winter Melon Soup. The Beggar Chicken flesh is tender and juicy, but the sauce may be a little too salty for some. Personally, I love the fish. It is deboned and flesh were stripped and fish paste will be stuffed back into the fish to its original condition. Sounds complicated? Yes. It was so good and unique. Worth paying for the effort and skills needed. Nothing much to shout about the glass noddles, pork knucle and soy sauce prawns though. The Winter Melon soup was good too. It has some chicken bits in it. Sweet and heart-warming for a rainy evening. Glad that they still managed to keep up to its name. continue reading

the restaurant is famous of its beggar chicken (叫化鸡). The chicken is prepared by wrapped it and cooked. The chicken is juicy, soft and nice. The herbal tastes will not too strong. We also ordered country fish. The fish meat is actually fish cake but they are decorated in a original fish shape, quite special. We also ordered sweet and sour pork. The taste not bad. The fried kangkung here just tastes normal. continue reading
