After a meeting in town, the collegue and myself thought of dining at this restaurant which was nearby the office building we were at. Plus it has been quite some time since we last had some Hakka dishes from there. So, after waiting a little while for a table since it was the lunch hour rush at the time, but we were greeted by a not-so-friendly wait staff before leading us to a table. Maybe because there were many people there but almost all the workers looked incredibly displeased to be working. All except for maybe two, so definitely need to minus points at the service sector. But we were hungry so we overlooked the bad reception and went straight to ordering. Everything on the menu were things we have tried from home cooking, though we knew the few things we were hungry for.First is the braised pork belly with preserved vegetable priced at Rm48. This is a staple in every Hakka family and as a kid, we'd just spoon the sauce over rice then mix in the fatty pork and call that dinner. Even as I ate the one served at the Hakka restaurant, it brought back nostalgic memories.Though be warned that the prices will surprise you as the portions are only substantial sizes. I do believe that the tastes warrants their rather steep price.Like this dish, there was a nice layer of melt-in-your-mouth fat on every slice of pork and it's as indulgent as it looked. Thankfully it tasted as good as I remembered.Another thing that we like to order is the Salted vegetable fried Chicken. Also a dish that brings back childhood memories of when my grandmother would make a similar dish for me to eat with white rice. This however was not as good as the pork belly. Somewhat disappointing as it was lack lustre and really nothing to shout about. Since we had the super fatty meat dish, we decided to compensate with some green veggies. So we ordered the stir-fried Kangkung with garlic. Again, nothing to shout about as it is just mediocre and somewhat lacking in the 'wok-hei' flavour. Although the bill came up to over Rm100 at the end of the day, we left the restaurant feeling stuffed to the brim and also in desperate need of a good run on the treadmill. If you are looking for some home cooked hakka flavours then this is the place to go to for your fix. However, be prepared to pay the rather steep prices.

Just to fulfill the healthiness of dining, we ordered a green vegetable dish, “Siong Tong Yin Choy” (Spinach in superior soup). The soup was quite flavourful with a tint of garlic taste in it. It was not diluted and full of the spinach essence in it. It was not too salty. The spinach was soft and there were a few tiny anchovies to give some crispy texture to it. Not bad at all. 繼續閱讀

Only recently became conscious of Hakka food, but am lovin' it! Sliced pork belly stewed with preserved vegetables in black soy sauce (the unhealthiest dish possible, but it was soooo good) and wok-fried celery with shredded dried squid, bamboo shoots and pork strips (total comfort food). Deep fried Hakka yong tau foo with fish paste, minced meat, dried squid and salted fish (gobbled this up too fast and now I can't recall what it tasted like. Must have been all right though). Village chicken salted and steamed with rice wine (too salty, but tender). 繼續閱讀
