Another one of those places that's been on the 'like to go' list, Blacksalt Tavern (formerly located opposite Locofama in SYP) and occupying the old Salt & Barrel location, we finally managed to try their en-vogue food fusion. We unfortunately just missed brunch (on Openrice it says until 4pm but it's actually 3pm on Saturdays) and it was the brunch menu that had piqued my interest, but there was still plenty to enjoy. The location is not well known but thanks to a couple of new buildings is starting to build a bit of pace. I can see this becoming an expact favourite due to it's range of maninly British ales, sports on TV and South Asian fusion food. When we visited it was middle of the rugby world cup but only a smattering of rugby afficianados were present. The menu is either small sharing plates or larger, more expensive dishes. We weren't that hungry so ordered some smaller plates. They were the gunpowder fries - fries with a mildly spiced coating. Whilst unremarkable the dips, especially the citrussy, think one were excellent. The chicken wings were deep fried in a batter and coated with a mango salad - terrific. The naan bread was shaped like a flat ciabbata and very soft and tasty. We also had a salad which the other half said had a bit too much fruit in it, and the best of all was the crabcakes with mini scallop and mango dressing. Apologies for any slight errors here as their menu isn't online (only brunch) and I'm trying to recall from memory the dishes and the prices. I would rate the food overall 9/10 and value 8.5/10Drinks wise the happy hour is a modest one, $10 off a glass of prosecco is more of a 'feel-good' rather than a 'feel-great' factor.Service wise there were some justifiable misses as it was the day when the MTR was down so that can all be forgiven, and the manager did offer a bottle of prosecco to help drown the sorrows. Will come back, but this time for the brunch as it does seem more varied and enticing an option.

Overall verdict: Very good flavours! The flavours here are so intricate and fragrant! I can never put my finger on what they are exactly. Every dish was fantastic. To name a few, we had the Scallops samosas, char siu rice and pork belly babs. For dessert we had banana fritters. They gave us an entree of mini papadams eith lentils which was super tasty and crispy. The star of the show was the char siu rice! The pork belly was not dry at all and the rice was well seasoned and had lots of fillings that gave it a light spiciness. I also really enjoyed the banana fritters dessert, which came with a mountain of cream and pool of sweet syrup.
