We don’t normally come to Ma On Shan but MOSTown is experiencing some rapid development and the restaurants and shops there are getting more and more high-end.


This restaurant mimics the dai pai dong vibe and food but much cleaner and with air-con. The restaurant is spacious but it weirdly feels stuffy, perhaps just the seat I was in.


We ordered their two-person set lunch as well as an ALC dish.

金銀蒜蓉新鮮蒸龍躉 $148


This dish has 4 very thick pieces of flaky and tender grouper with a chewy and bouncy skin. Absolutely loved this dish. The skin was thick and gelatinous with minimal scales. The flesh was melt-in-your-mouth buttery and very well seasoned.


The vermicelli could have been more cooked through and it wasn’t mixed well so some areas are untouched by the sauce, but still delicious with the garlic sauce. They are also longer than expected so it feels like eating a bowl of vermicelli instead of having it as a side (but I’m not complaining).


It may not seem worth it as this only comes with 4 pieces, but it is worth a try.

This set has a lot of food but not all are tasty so don’t really recommend it.


時令燉湯


Two big bowls of delicious chicken soup with sufficient meat and ingredients inside. Very comforting and warm, a great start to the meal.


自家製醬油皮蛋 $20


Added this appetiser. Loved their homemade sauce which is savoury and only slightly spicy with a strong cilantro taste. Not quite generous with portion though as it is only one egg.


白灼菜心 $20


Added on this vegetable too. Surprisingly very good, and cooked well so the stems are crunchy and the leaves are tender. When boiling, they added some oil to the water, which made it shinier, but you can taste it, which is not that nice.

The set comes with this dim sum platter but everything was pretty bad.


蟹籽香菇燒賣 - juicy meat with aromatic mushrooms, decent shui mai.


係真唔係冬菇包 - filling is non-existent with one or two pieces of mushrooms, bread is soft (way too soft, disintegrated when eaten) but tastes like nothing and


潮州粉果 - this was horrendous. The wrapper is so thick and dense and the ratio was completely off. The filling was out of proportion in terms of textures and taste. The diced radishes are sweet and crunchy but the peanuts are way too big and chalky. Probably the worst fenguo I’ve had in HK.


好Q奶黃小豬包 - very small bao with even less egg yolk filling. Taste ok.

金銀蒜開邊蒸蝦


Basically the same dish as the steamed grouper except with prawns instead.


Prawn meat is a tad bit overcooked but still easy to peel off and eat. The vermicelli is very long and a few are not cooked enough. However, the garlic soy sauce is so good and oily. Garlic pieces are bigger than supposed to be but I’m not complaining. Portions are generous with lots of vermicelli.

安格斯牛煲仔飯


The set comes with one clay pot of rice from a small selection. This was the only one without lap cheong.


The beef is tender and flavourful, I love the addition of the raw egg as it adds softness and richness to this dish, the egg also slightly cooks due to the hot bowl so some gets quite crispy. However, the rice dramatically stood out. Very aromatic jasmine rice with lots of 飯蕉 that doesn’t stick to the pot! Season it with lard oil and soy sauce and it’s so savoury and delicious. The rice is cooked perfectly till tender and not mushy.


The portion is sufficient for two as their clay pots aren’t too big to start with.

游水筍殼魚 (清蒸)$148


I came back a week later to eat this fish because I was too full to try it last time.


You can choose between chilli sauce, miso sauce, steamed, or deep fried. I chose the steamed version to test the quality of the fish and their ability to make this simple dish.


They say the fish is suited for 2-3 people, but I managed to finish it by myself with a bowl of rice (+$20). In my opinion, they cooked it too much as the skin completely fell off the fish and a few parts were also quite dry. Nonetheless, the majority of the fish is flaky and tender with a distinct ‘fish’ taste. The meat on the head however tastes quite fishy and not in a good way. I really enjoyed the mountain of green onions, ginger, and cilantro on top that adds a really good pungency and flavour along with the soy sauce and scallion oil. This sauce went so well with their rice which is very fragrant and isn’t mushy at all.

💬 Overall, a great lunch but quite expensive for MOS. Nonetheless, a good restaurant to try out but don’t have high expectations about the food. The only ones that are above average is the claypot rice.
