Having eaten Loy Kee Chicken Rice bought from various food court or hawker stalls since young, and rather liking the fragrant flavor, we decided to have dinner at one of their restaurant outlets. It is just a simply-furnished outlet with red tiled floors, glass doors and a long counter with chefs cooking in open concept, and marble-topped tables for the patrons. A very traditional style aka nostalgic style of dining a la the past coffee shops, except this one has air-conditioning.I had the Shredded Chicken Noodle (鸡丝面) and I opted for You Ji aka oiled chicken (油鸡) because it was my favorite since young - crispy / springy noodles cooked in a light dark sauce. The chicken meat was tender and delicious. The set of pounded garlic-chilli, pounded ginger and dark sauce for dipping the chicken was fabulous, complementing the original flavor of the meat expertly. The Beau had the Loy Kee Special Set - comprising of roasted chicken, vegetables, rice and a soup. The braised egg was an additional order by the way. The chicken was succulent and the rice was aromatic with garlic + chicken broth's flavor. It was a well-balanced meal with meat and veggies, and we enjoyed this simple meal rather much - save for the fact that we remember the chicken rice used to be more flavorful / sapid in the past. For more detailed information and photos, please feel free to check out:http://thearcticstar.blogspot.sg/2014/08/dinner-at-loy-kee-chicken-rice.html continue reading

I came back with my partner to try their white chicken with rice this time. We had the roasted chicken the last time. We ordered half of the white chicken. The meat was slightly juicier and more tender as compared to the roasted one but less flavorsome too. It goes better with the dark sauce, the garlic paste and the chilli. The chilli is one of the better chilli that i ever tried. It has a distinct spiciness that complemented the chicken well. Another main reason for liking the chicken rice here is the rice. Their rice tasted fluffy and flavorful. It is good to be eaten on its own. The chicken rice here has the combination of a perfect chicken rice. continue reading

A chicken rice set for one person costs $4 and comes with a plate of steamed chicken, a bowl of rice and soup. Lightly coated with a layer of chicken essence and pandan fragrance, the rice is sufficiently tasty but not overly greasy or sticky. The steamed chicken is fresh and tender and goes very well with the unique chilli sauce that is salty and sour. I especially enjoyed the juicy preserved pickles that came with the chicken, adding a desirable tinge of sweetness to the dish.Besides delicious chicken rice, Loy Kee also has seafood steamboat. Bring your family down to Whampoa and try it for dinner today. continue reading

Had steamboat on a cold and wet night. We ordered the medium size steamboat for (3-4 people) and it costs $22. The soup base is delicious; I guess they had used the chicken bones to cook the soup. The dishes that includes in the steamboat are fresh prawns, cabbage, fresh fish, squid, eggs, sliced fish, sea cucumber, pig liver and rice. It will be a nice place to dine in for people who always have late dinners as they closes at 10pm. continue reading

I must admit that chicken rice is the best thing must have in Singapore! Loy kee is one of the famous chicken rice restaurant in singapore. They offer a set menu with chicken, soup, rice and vegetable. Great for big eaters! The rice though is simply delicious. You are able to taste each grain of rice, infused with chicken essence. Mix rice and chicken meat with the main 3 sauces, chilli sauce, ginger sauce and dark soya sauce u will find it marvelous. Just like any other chicken rice restaurant, you may choose any part of the chicken you would like to have. The chicken is succulent and taste heavenly. It is soft and tender. Anyhow i would prefer the roasted chicken rice than the steamed chicken, its is more flavorful and tender. continue reading
