It was a Sunday late morning but the place was considerably empty. It would be a good place for brunch during weekends as it would be packed at most brunch places. It was not hot that day so it was great to be seated at the airy alfresco area.Food quality was good however the pinch is its above-average-pricing indeed! Tried their Eggs Benedict, one was the Streaky Bacon Savoury Pancake ($23) while the other was the Smoked Salmon ($24). I think the former was preferred, the egg was done just the right way as it should be and tasted great along with the savoury pancakes. However, the latter version was just run-of-the-mill. Looking at the size of it, it was not meant to be filling surely. The only commendable aspects were that luckily the egg was done right while the smoked Salmon was fresh enough.Tried the Chicken Roulade ($28), meat was tender enough and the gravy sauce tasted flavourful enough. Had the Pizza Rocket ($28) too, the Parma Ham was fresh but the pizza crust was too hard. Can pretty much give it a miss Overall, food quality was average but at a steep price. But the quiet ambience was the only plus point. continue reading

Da Paolo Group is a fast expanding restaurant chain, I don’t know about others but when being ask where can one find good food with good ambience , it mainly points to Da Paolo. Strolling along Rochester Park with hubby on a nice quiet night, we went to Da Paolo and was seated by friendly staff. We ordered Onion soup, Grilled Fresh Sea Bass, Slipper Lobster Pasta. The onion soup was sweet and mellow tasting. Grilled Fresh Sea Bass was beautifully cooked to a nice silver to charring gradient colour. Moist tender flesh and crispy skin accompanied with cucumber relish & saffron hollandaise was simply lovely So far I liked the Slipper Lobster Pasta the most, cute looking slipper lobsters in generous portions was tender and moist.Blended well with the bouncy al dente pasta and cherry tomatoes.I would definitely be back to try out the other dishes! continue reading

Ordered two spaghetti dishes (the classic Aglio Olio and Tagliatelle Crab), a Chicken Salad, and a white and red wine for each of us. The Tagliatelle Crab went well with the red wine as the taste of the crab sauce complements each other. The thin chewy Tagliatelle slices were well cooked and blend well with the crab sauce, leaving a smooth after taste to the palate. The ingredients served were sumptous and fulfilling. The Aglio Olio Spaghetti was average as it was under-cooked, causing the pasta to taste slightly hard and dry. However, i believe that this dish will appeal to the health conscious population as it is not oily compared to the Aglio Olio I've tried elsewhere. continue reading

Rochester is a well hidden, yet very accessible location to look for bars and cafes to chill and relax. Abit pricey, but the ambiance there is worth the priceAs you can see, everything is pretty. Sofa, bar counter, waitress...There was a drink promotion on that night. $12 for a cocktail, and there were 2 to choose from. This was the first one, and it has mango-basil flavour in it. Tastes fantastic.Lycee and mint. This was good, but I prefer mango. You can never go wrong with Churros fresh from the deep fryer. Hot, crispy, and generous coating of sugar and cinnamon was already awesome by itself. Say hi to the chocolate sauce and you are in dream land. Side note, the chocolate sauce can do with some more dark choc inside. continue reading

Having heard about the good reviews about the recent new menu, decided to head out for a try. For more details and photos, visit : http://dairycream.blogspot.sg/2012/12/da-paolo-bistro-bar.htmlWe had the Parma Ham & Packham Pear pizza which is a must try. The grilled barramundi with the lovely spicy avocado and mango salsa on top of fluffy couscous rice were outstanding but not the Iberico Pork Ribs with potato wedges and garlic alioli . Desserts like chocolate caramel bar and the salted caramel pannacotta are not to be missed but the chocolate souffle was slightly disappointing. continue reading
