This was around my 5th time to The Rose Veranda. Service was ok but not great. It's nice to see the waitress here were well-groomed!I feel that the quality of the food/dessert was much better the previous times compared to now. Their cakes used to make me WoW last time but not so much now.. Overall still acceptable but this is Shangri-La so we would expect premium quality with this price of $45++ per pax. Overall I really like the cosy and elegant ambience here. Hope they can improve on the food quality and this place will be a perfect place for high tea!For full review & photos, please visit: http://summerlovestoeat.blogspot.sg/2014/02/high-tea-buffet-at-rose-veranda-shangri.html continue reading

I have been wanting to visit The Rose Verandah for their high-tea, so when the day came for this indulgence, it was an event to look forward to. The name itself exudes old-fashioned class and elegance, and the setting of this place did not disappoint. Elaborate chandelier lamps hanging from high ceilings, lush carpeting and exotic colors fill out a glass, leather and marble dining area that combines vintage "homeliness" with class.A rack of TWG teas greeted us upon entering the restaurant - a happy feeling knowing that The Rose Verandah was serving quality tea. I had the Morning Irish tea - something fragrant and befitting in this lazy Saturday late morning time. The table was elegantly-furnished as well, and the attentive and efficient service crew came over to take our tea orders and serve us a welcome Iced Tea. They also brought over a Cream of Pumpkin soup that was very scrumptious, and also on the house - we were rather delighted with the service and quality freebies. As any good buffet stations, The Rose Verandah has a good array of salads, greens and cold cuts to kickstart off a sumptuous high tea. We were spoilt for choice by the food selection segregated - salads and gado gado, Chinese food like dim-sum, homecook-style chicken etc, Japanese counter, bread counter and desserts station. I lingered for a while before decided to start off with some salads and light items. The first plate I tried was some finger sandwiches, shrimp salads, sauteed mushrooms and smoked salmon with apricot. The fresh and delicious tiny bites teased our appetites and we yearned for more at the end of these light starters. For more detailed information and photos, do drop by:http://thearcticstar.blogspot.sg/2014/02/high-tea-at-rose-verandah-shangri-la.html continue reading

Great service, wide selection of tea, , extensive range of savoury bites, decadent desserts with a chocolate fondue as its centrepiece; the high tea session at Shangri La’s Rose Veranda is an affair not to be missed. With 2 seatings available one weekends, we had chose to sleep in and settled for the 2nd seating at 3-6pm. Do note that even if you arrive early, you have to wait till 3pm to get settled into your seats. The moment we were seated, we were passed leather bounded menus where we chose our tea choice for the day. Crazy hard for a tea lover like me who just want to try everything. The Japanese Geisha, Rose, Boudoir are good choices that you are go for tooOne of the key highlights in the session, was the laksa station on the buffet spread!Pick your own ingredients drench the thick flavoursome coconut based broth all over it, one mouthful and you will be hooked! If you are a fan of Katong Laksa, you will find this to be a thicker and more coconuty version here. Definitely sinful, but oh-so-good!The other savoury offerings range between Chinese, Indian, Japanese and Western dishes, so you will be sure to find something that you will definitely like!A small selection of cheese platter is also available, and I do love the pairing of sharp red cheddar cheese with wholemeal bread. Do try it if you have the chance! The desserts corner in comparision to the savory treats has fewer selections but they were all good. I didnt managed to try all of them as I was too full. I have a particular fondness for the raspberry tarts and vanilla creme brulee though.Definitely a good place for high-tea, I really really love the service level provided here, where there is always someone nearby to cater to your needs. Desserts if possible, I hope it can be replenished much faster as the macarons often runs out. I didnt manage to try everything out as I was so stuffed, but so far even my dining partners are impressed by the food served. Here’s a little savings tip for you! Rose Veranda offers a classy ambience with comfortable armchairs and a less crowdy setting, yet with a reasonable spread. It offers more of hi tea spread with a choice of 120 teas. Definitely great for gals gathering, whereby you can chit chat over cups of tea with nice savories and desserts. You can just eat leisurely (Weekday Hi Tea from 11.30 - 6pm) without the need to "choke" yourself with food. The spread:Sashimi & SushiChicken with MangoI kind of like this dish, the chicken was tender and it was cooked with my favourite food => Mango!Seafood in Creamy SauceThis was another great dish. The prawns, squids and big mussels totally soaked up the creamy sauce, without being too overwhelming. Really nice.Spanish QuinchOne of my fav here.. Really like the crust, baked to perfection!******How can we miss out desserts? I loved to go buffet, hi-tea during xmas seasons because that's when the dessert spread looks especially pretty with all the xmas-y log cakes and tarts.. Being a very established hotel in SG, the dining experience here is certainly enjoyable. Located on the 2nd floor, The Rose Veranda has tall ceiling with full length glass windows overlooking the swimming pool. Decor is of a modern contemporary style with crimson red chandeliers adorning the ceiling. There are touches of roses everywhere, be it the floral arrangement, table centerpiece, exquisite crockery and delicately embroidered napkins are all specially designed to match the restaurant name. I love the dainty little rosebuds on the teapots and teacups...so sweet!Food here was served at the buffet stations. Unlike The Landing Point that serves only finger food, this place serves an international lunch spread complete with dessert stations. Food quality was very good, I loved their fresh and juicy scallops! The cod fish was fresh and tender...so was the flavorful smoked salmon slices. Freshly made finger sandwich was soft and delicious and the baked char siew bun was flaky with juicy char siew fillings. The Tuna tataki and salmon salad were nice and refreshing. Assorted sushi and dim sum were all made with fresh and quality ingredients...thumbs up.For desserts, I had the yummy osmanthus wolfberry jelly served in a shot glass, it is not too sweet and full of flavor...I liked. The glutinous rice ball was soft and sticky, not too bad. Orange macaron was light and not too sweet, and berry mousse with chocolate chips was very delish too!Ice cream to complete the wonderful meal. Smooth and creamy with interesting soft sugar candies as topping, I'm a happy girl Service here is generally good, the restaurant manager was prompt to replace the complimentary birthday cake when we highlighted that there was a small fly on the cake. We thoroughly enjoyed the good quality food and great ambiance at Rose Veranda. We will definitely be back in a heartbeat! For full review and more photos, please visit http://midas400.blogspot.sg/2013/01/best-hi-tea-buffet-at-local-5-hotel.html continue reading
