For pictures and full review, pls visit:http://madamechewy.com/2014/06/30/pow-sing-restaurant/I have always wanted to drop by Pow Sing for a hearty meal, but because it too far from home and parking is a nightmare, I refrained from asking Hubby to take me there. In my teens, my family often had our weekend dinners at this humble Hainanese chicken rice and Nonya cuisine restaurant. The place looked almost the same as I remembered 11 years ago. But nobody cares much about the décor when the draw is delicious and reasonably priced food. Be warned, this place is not for you if you cannot stand crowd and noisy chatters. Service is efficient, albeit a little abrupt.Hainanese Chicken ($5/serving) and Fragrant Rice ($1/serving) were fantastic, but not the best I had tried. If you are craving for something for spicy, give the flavorsome Nonya Otak ($3/pc) a go. The tantalizing otak is thick and very substantial.I wish we didn’t order the Sweet and Sour Fish ($12/$18/$24).I have an unabashed love affair for Har Chiong Gai, and Pow Sing’s Crispy Fried Chicken Wing with Prawn Paste ($10/$15/$20) didn’t disappoint. Oh yes, it was C-R-I-S-P-Y, no doubt about that. The tender oily meat pulls out with ease.Although not the most photogenic, Nonya Tauhu ($8/$12/$16) was another highlight. The delicately crisps exterior encases smooth egg tofu. Definitely a dish that will please most palates.Kai Lan with Oyster Sauce ($8/$12/$16). Crunchy vegetables done just right, in a savory sauce. There is no service charge and our total bill came up to $60.75 for 4 pax, which include 3 cups of Lime Juice ($2 each). This works out to be $15 per pax. Value for money, tasty dishes, I’d come here again and again if I could.Valet service is available on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and PH after 6.30pm.  continue reading

Situated in Serangoon Garden, its inaccessibility really do turns me off at times but yet you know it's worth it because of the food.Nyonya Cabbage Roll - $10/$15/$20Cabbage wrapped in my favorite otah, topped with laksa-liked gravy sauce. It does not taste too milky nor spicy, just the perfect taste I'm comfortable with. Cabbage did not get all soggy even after soaked in the gravy for some time.Prawn with Nyonya Traditional Sauce $18/$27/$36It's one of my favorite dish of the day. This dish tasted like Assam Fish Head, spicy yet a little sour but on the good side of the scale. Prawn is fresh and I love its sauce. (Y)Nyonya Chap Chye - $8/$12/$16It's Pow Sing's award-winning dish but because I'm a carnivore, I can't appreciate the goodness of it, it feels soggy and I think it's more for elderly reminiscing the old times where they have this dish at home as well as those that have difficulty chewing food. This is for them.Hainanese Chicken - $5/paxAnother of their 'best-seller' dish in Pow Sing. I think it just tasted normal, nothing like 'oh-so-awesome' but just traditional white chicken. The meat is not tender enough but the sauce added some point for this dish.Crispy Nyonya Tauhu - $8/$12/$16Crispy Tauhu that doesn't feel crispy, it's rather disappointing that it's not what I expected.Instead of crispy, it's more like taupok ._.Fish Head Curry - $32/$36Their fish is very fresh, all you get is tender white meat melting in your mouth. Their Assam sauce is powerful enough, not too spicy nor sour, best among those I ever eaten. (Y)(Y) It's the best among the rest (whoo)The ambience is more family-like, having big tables like those 'zi-char' place. It's very noisy during peak period because everyone come in big group and they chat loudly so perhaps choose a better timing before dropping by. Beside Pow Sing Restaurant, they have one along the same stretch of road, namely Pow Sing Kitchen. It's their sub restaurant but mostly selling stuffs like 'Hor Fan', 'Chicken Rice' all these. If you are not in groups, maybe that is more suitable for you. continue reading

I gotta know this pow sing restaurant from my ex colleagues as they recommended the signature white chicken rice tasted really good. Since I was around the area, I decided to give it a try. I ordered half the white chicken to share with my friend and indeed the chicken tasted as good as what I was being told. It is smooth and well marinated and the chicken meat is very tender. The sauce of the chicken is sweet and flavorful and goes well with the chicken fragrant rice. The restaurant is not that crowded during weekday night, but I think it will be filled with people during weekends so reservations are recommended. continue reading

It was 1st January 2013 and we wanted a nice family meal together but yet don't want to squeeze with the crowd. So going to one of our favorite eatery for take away is the best option. So i happily placed my order for the classic white chicken, fish head curry, sambal kang kong and claypot tofu + chicken rice! With curry, anything is good. And i always love Pow Sing for nice yummy no fuss meal so this whole meal was really enjoyable! Now just looking at the picture is making me drool. I should go back soon =) continue reading

First impression does count. I liked what i see when my sister passed this box of chicken rice that she took away from Pow Sing Restaurant for me. A good portion of chicken with a fair amount of chicken liver and a few slices of cucumber packed nicely with rice in a plastic box. First mouthful of the chicken and rice was rather delightful. The chicken was cooked nicely to achieve the desirable tenderness and still managed to retain its full flavor. The rice was fragrant and at the right softness. The level of spiciness of the chilli is rather minimum. The spiciness is not distinctive with little ginger or garlic taste and it has got a slight sweetness. I enjoyed it nonetheless. continue reading
