This is the place that you can visit in t-shirt and shorts perhaps with a pair of slippers, too. It is located in the heart of Ang Mo Kio. And for the fan of Pine Garden's Cake, it's just next door of this no frill neighborhood bakery and perhaps that is why it's called the Next Door Deli.

Flyers were distributed to the neighborhood to create awareness of its existence and special price of $4.90 for set lunch if you cut out the coupon and presented it upon order. We decided to make use of this offer to have a taste of their foods.

The set lunch for today was Fish & Chips. Upon ordered and paid, a number was issued. We were asked to self service for the drinks and upon seated down, 2 bars of brownies were presented for 2 orders of set lunch. We waited for about 5 minutes or so before our number was flashed on the LED board and we were supposed to pick up our foods at the counter.

Their fish & chips consists of 1 piece of battered fried dory fish fillet with a portion of coleslaw and french fries. The taste of fish & chips very much reminded me of the fish & chips that i had at IKEA cafe. The coating of the fish & chips lacked crispiness, after cut it with the knife, i encountered difficulties in pricking the slice using the fork. I gotta flipped the fork, treating it like a spoon and scooped up the fish. The good thing is it was not greasy or overwhelming.

The ambience is pretty cosy like those in the IKEA cafe. This is a small cafe with limited seating capacity, there was an elderly auntie at the cashier's counter and a young man as service staff. Both of them were pretty attentive and friendly. I asked the auntie for the permission to take pictures. She asked me to go ahead but i was stopped when stepping out of the cafe when done eating by a gentleman saying no photography is allowed. I was a little taken aback but still, i apologised.

If minus this little unhappiness, it would be a simple yet pleasant meal. If you want simple foods in a nice ambience at the heart of neighborhood then the Next Door Deli might be the place for your choice.
